Is it necessary to have a poofy slip under a wedding gown?
I bought my gown a few months ago at David’s Bridal and it came in this week. I did not purchase a bra or slip from them– they are so expensive! I tried it on yesterday without any bra or slip and it looked fine to me. The dress has four layers of poof underneath it already… do I really need another slip?
The lady told me things like the corset-type bra would make it look smooth, but my dress has a gathered waist and I am small either way so I don’t feel the need. She said the slip would help shape the skirt but it looked fine to me without it.
Am I crazy to not buy this stuff? My plan is to just wear the dress and not worry about a bra or slip… has anyone else done that and ended up regretting it, or was it the right choice for you? (My dress has an A-line skirt and a sweetheart neckline with off-shoulder straps, if that helps.) Thanks!
No, you do not need all the extras that come with a bridal gown. I first tried on gowns at davids bridal and they had me put everything on with it, and I wanted a poofy gown. Then I went to my local bridal shop, and found my dream gown, which is quite poofy. The girls there told me that I did not need any extras to go with the dress, as long as it felt comfortable when i walked around. As far as keeping the material away from you legs, I asked about that. They told me that when they dry clean/steam the gowns before you wear them, it takes care of all of the material issues. The steaming process helps the dress to spread out more, and will make it all the more poofy. This dress shop has done thousands of dresses, and I have rarely heard of a complaint. The only couple of complaints I have heard of, the girl herself was a pain to deal with anyways. So to answer you question, you do not need the extras, just have them clean/steam the gown prior to wearing it.
